Mechanism of action

Maalox - antacid drug. Neutralizes the free hydrochloric (hydrochloric) acid, which leads to a decrease in the peptic activity of gastric juice. Does not cause secondary hypersecretion. It also has an adsorbing and enveloping effect, reducing the impact of damaging factors on the mucous membrane.

Maalox does not cause constipation. It is used as an adsorbing, enveloping and antacid with high acidity of gastric juice. Maalox soothes pain in the upper digestive tract for several hours.

- Peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum in the acute phase;
- acute gastroduodenitis;
- chronic gastroduodenitis with normal or increased secretory function in the acute phase;
- hernia of the esophageal opening of the diaphragm;
- reflux esophagitis;
- the phenomenon of dyspepsia (and their prevention), resulting from the use of certain drugs (including NSAIDs, GCS);

Contraindications

Dosage and administration

Maalox is usually taken 1-1.5 hours after a meal or when pain occurs.Adults appoint 1-2 pills 3-4 times a day.

Adverse reactions

Gastrointestinal: rarely - constipation, nausea, vomiting, change in taste.
Other: with prolonged use and with impaired renal function - an increase in the level of magnesium and / or aluminum in the blood, deficiency of phosphorus in the body, encephalopathy; in elderly people - exacerbation of diseases of the musculoskeletal system, Alzheimer's disease.

Special notes

The 2-hour interval between taking Maalox and other drugs should be observed.

When prescribing the drug for children, the dosage regimen is set individually; It is not recommended to use the drug in children under the age of 12 years without consulting a doctor.
