Composition

Pharmatex cream vaginal 1.2% white with the smell of lavender.
100 g of cream contain benzalkonium chloride 1.2 g;
Excipients: lemon acid; macrogol 300 and 1500; ethylene glycol stearate (Tephose 63); lavender essence; purified water q.s. up to 100 g

Mechanism of action

Pharmatex - vaginal contraceptive.
Benzalkoniya chloride is both a spermicide and an antiseptic. The active substance destroys the membrane of sperm. The destruction of spermatozoa occurs in two stages: first, the destruction of the flagellum, then the rupture of the head, which makes it impossible to fertilize.
Application Pharmatex significantly reduces the risk of pregnancy, but does not eliminate it completely.
Clinical efficacy is determined by the corrected Pearl Index, which is less than 1 if the drug is used correctly.
In vitro preparation active against many pathogens that cause sexually transmitted diseases, especially Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Chlamydia spp., Trichomonas vaginalis, Staphylococcus aureus, Herpes simplex type 2, HIV.
A drug not active against Mycoplasma spp. and weakly active against Gardnerella vaginalis, Candida albicans, Haemophilus ducreyi and Treponema pallidum.
In vivo components of the drug show some activity in the prevention of diseases,sexually transmitted, but there is no evidence of this.
The drug does not affect the saprophytic vaginal microflora, incl. on the wand Doderleayna.

Benzalkoniya chloride is not absorbed by the mucous membrane of the vagina. It is absorbed only on the surface of the walls of the vagina and then excreted with normal physiological secretions or eliminated by simple washing with water.

Indications and usage

Local contraception for any woman of reproductive age who has no contraindications to this, as well as in the following cases:

- in the period preceding menopause;

As an additional local contraception when using the vaginal diaphragm or intrauterine device (especially if some drugs are taken at the same time, such as NSAIDs).

Contraindications

- the impossibility of the correct use of Pharmatex in people with mental disorders or persons who do not allow any interventions on the genitals, and which prevent the use of contraceptives;
- Anyone who is unable to understand or agree with this type of contraception;
- colpit;
- ulceration and irritation of the mucous membrane of the vagina and uterus;
- hypersensitivity to the drug.

Dosage and administration

Before the introduction vaginal cream Install a metering device at the end of the tube. Fill it completely (until the annular mark or until the piston stops) so that air bubbles do not form. Disconnect the metering device from the tube. Before intercourse, insert the cream deep into the vagina with a dispensing device, slowly pressing on the plunger. Remove the dosing device. Adverse reactions

Allergic reactions: burning, itching, contact dermatitis (if they occur, the use of Pharmatex should be discontinued).

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

No adverse effects associated with the use of the drug during pregnancy were found.Examination of the teratogenic properties of the final product gave negative results, as well as an examination of the teratogenic properties of the active substance itself. In addition, studies have shown that benzalkonium chloride is not absorbed into the blood.
Since the absence of penetration of the active substance into the blood and breast milk has been proven, the use of this spermicide during lactation does not pose any danger.

The effectiveness of contraception is associated exclusively with strict adherence to the rules of its use:
- apply systematically before each sexual intercourse;
- to introduce a capsule (tablet, suppository, tampon, cream) so that the chosen dosage form penetrates as deep as possible into the vagina, preferably in the supine position;
- wait until the capsule or pill is completely dissolved in the vagina for at least 10 minutes, for the suppository for at least 5 minutes, so that the active substance is completely released;
- it is necessary to introduce a new capsule (pill, dose of cream, suppository) before each repeated sexual intercourse;
- It is prohibited to use soap for the toilet of the genital organs 2 hours before sexual intercourse and within 2 hours after intercourse, since soap, even in residual quantities, destroys the active ingredient Pharmatex;
- Immediately after sexual intercourse, only external toilet of the genitals is possible only with clean water or with the help of the Foamingx non-soap foaming agent, which contains benzalkonium chloride. Before doing vaginal irrigation, you should wait for 2 hours after intercourse;
- with Pharmatex, introduced into the vagina, you can not take a bath, swim in the sea, pool and water bodies because of the danger of reducing the subsequent contraceptive action;

Drug Interactions

Not recommended simultaneous use with drugs used vaginally. Any drug introduced into the vagina can inactivate the local spermicidal action of Pharmatex.
Pharmax disintegrates with soap. Do not irrigate the vagina before and after sexual contact, because soap, even its traces, destroys the active ingredient.
