Active substance

Furazidin

Composition

1 capsule contains:

active ingredient: furazidin sodium 62.5 mg (in terms of anhydrous 100% substance - 50 mg);

excipients: Magnesium carbonate basic aqueous 72.0 mg, starched alumina starch 45.2 mg, colloidal silicon dioxide (Aerosil) 6.3 mg, croscarmellose sodium 12.0 mg, talc 2.0 mg; hard gelatin capsules: case and cap of the capsule - titanium dioxide 1.3333%, dye quinoline yellow 0.9197%, dye sun-setting yellow 0.0044%, gelatin - up to 100%.

Mechanism of action

Antimicrobial agent of broad-spectrum, belonging to the group of nitrofurans. Furazidine resistance develops slowly and does not reach a high degree. Active against gram-positive and gram-negative microbes, pathogenic strains of Staphylococcus spp. and other antibiotic-resistant microorganisms. It is effective against gram-positive cocci (streptococci, staphylococci), gram-negative rods (eshirichia if, salmonella, shigella, protea, klebsiella, enterobacteria), protozoa (lyamblia). Furazidin is more active in relation to staphylococcus, Escherichia coli, Aerobacter aerogenes, Bacterium citrovorum, Proteus mirabilis, Proteus morganii, compared with other nitrufurans. Furazidin is more active against Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus spp. compared with other antimicrobial groups.

Against most bacteria, the bacteriostatic concentration ranges from 1: 100,000 to 1: 200,000. The bactericidal concentration is about twice as high. Under the influence of nitrofurans in microorganisms, the respiratory chain and the tricarboxylic acid cycle (Krebs cycle) are suppressed and other biochemical processes of microorganisms are inhibited, resulting in the destruction of their membrane or cytoplasmic membrane. As a result of the action of nitrofurans, microorganisms secrete less toxins, and therefore the improvement of the general state is possible even before the marked suppression of the growth of microflora. Nitrofurans, unlike many other antimicrobial agents, not only do not inhibit the body's immune system, but on the contrary, activate it (increase the complement titer and the ability of leukocytes to phagocytose microorganisms). At therapeutic doses, nitrofuran stimulates leukopoiesis.

Indications

Urogenital infections (acute cystitis, urethritis, pyelonephritis); gynecological infections; skin and soft tissue infections; severe infected burns; With the preventive purpose at urological operations (including cystoscopy, catheterization).

Contraindications

Chronic renal failure severe; pregnancy; lactation period (breastfeeding); children up to 3 years; hypersensitivity to furazidine and other nitrofurans.

Side effects

On the part of the digestive system: rarely - nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, abnormal liver function.

From the side of the central nervous system and peripheral nervous system: rarely - headache, dizziness, polyneuritis.

Allergic reactions: rarely - skin rash (including papular rash).

Interaction

When a combination of furazidina with ristomycin, chloramphenicol, sulfonamides increases the risk of oppression of blood (should not be used simultaneously).

It is not recommended to use drugs capable of acidifying urine (including Ascorbic acid, Calcium chloride) simultaneously with nitrofurans.

How to take, the course of administration and dosage

Inside, after eating, drinking plenty of liquid.

For urogenital infections (acute cystitis, urethritis, pyelonephritis), gynecological infections:

Adults appoint 50-100 mg 3 times a day.

Children are prescribed 25-50 mg 3 times a day (but not more than 5 mg / kg body weight per day).

The course of treatment is from 7-10 days. If necessary, repeat the treatment should be a break for 10-15 days.

For the prevention of infection during urological operations, cystoscopy, catheterization:

Adults appoint 50 mg once for 30 minutes before the procedure.

Children are prescribed 25 mg once for 30 minutes before the procedure.

If you forget to take the next dose, take the next dose at the usual time. Do not take a double dose to replace the missed dose.

Overdosage

Symptoms: symptoms of a neurotoxic nature, ataxia, tremor.

Treatment: in case of overdose, drink plenty of fluids. For the relief of acute symptoms, antihistamines are used. For the prevention of neuritis it is possible to prescribe Vitamins (thiamine bromide).

Special notes

To reduce the likelihood of side effects, the drug is washed down with a large amount of liquid.

With the appearance of side effects, the use of the drug should be discontinued (toxic effects are more common in patients with reduced renal excretory function).

If any of the side effects indicated in the instructions are aggravated, or any other side effects that are not indicated in the instructions are noted, you should immediately inform your doctor.

Considering the possible side effects of furazidine on the part of the nervous system, care must be taken when driving and other classes of potentially hazardous activities that require increased concentration and psychomotor reactions.
