Active ingredient and dosage form
Enteric-coated tablets: 1 pill contains 50 or 100 mg of nitrofurantoin;
10, 20, 30, 40, 50 pcs. packaged.
Mechanism of action
Antimicrobial drug, is a derivative of nitrofuran. It has a bactericidal and bacteriostatic effect in urinary tract infections, has a wide spectrum of action. Active against most strains of Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Salmonella typhi, Salmonella paratyphi A, Salmonella paratyphi B, Shigella sonnei, Proteus, Enterobacter spp.
After ingestion of the drug Furadonin, the active substance is well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. The presence of food in the stomach can increase the degree of absorption of nitrofurantoin. The active substance penetrates through the placenta and BBB, excreted in breast milk. Nitrofurantoin is metabolized in the liver and muscle tissue, is completely excreted by the kidneys (up to 50% unchanged).
Indications and usage
Infectious and inflammatory diseases of the urinary tract caused by microorganisms sensitive to the drug:
- pyelitis;
- pyelonephritis;
- cystitis;
- urethritis;
Prevention of infections during urological operations or examination (cystoscopy, catheterization, etc.).
Contraindications
- pronounced disorders of renal excretory function;
- oliguria;
- deficiency of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase;
- pregnancy;
- Early childhood (up to 1 month);
- hypersensitivity to nitrofuran derivatives.
Dosage and administration
For adults prescribe inside 100-150 mg 3-4 times a day. The course of treatment is 5-8 days.
In the absence of effect during this period, to continue treatment is impractical.
Maximum doses: single 300 mg, daily 600 mg.
For children The drug is usually prescribed at the rate of 5-8 mg / kg per day in 3-4 doses.
Adverse reactions

Very rarely - anaphylactic shock, asthma attack (in patients with a history of asthma), drug fever, exfoliative dermatitis, erythema multiforme, "flu-like" symptoms, arthralgia.
The risk of developing peripheral neuropathy is increased in patients with anemia, diabetes mellitus, electrolyte imbalance, vitamin B deficiency, severe renal insufficiency.
The drug should not be prescribed for the treatment of diseases of the cortical substance of the kidneys, with purulent paranephritis and prostatitis.
To reduce the risk of side effects from the gastrointestinal tract, it is desirable to prescribe the drug with food or milk.
Furadonin is not prescribed in combination with drugs that cause renal dysfunction.
When using Furadonin during lactation, it is necessary to resolve the issue of discontinuing breastfeeding.
Drug Interactions
The simultaneous use of nalidixic acid and antacids containing Magnesium trisilikat reduces the antibacterial effect.
Incompatible with fluoroquinolones. Drugs that block tubular secretion, reduce the antibacterial effect (by reducing the concentration of nitrofurantoin in the urine) and increase the toxicity (increased concentration in the blood) of the drug.
Storage conditions
List B. In a dry, dark place.
