Mechanism of action

LIVIAL - a drug for the treatment of menopausal syndrome that does not cause regular withdrawal bleeding. Stabilizes the work of the hypothalamic-pituitary system in menopause, which is achieved by estrogenic, progestogenic and weak androgenic properties of the drug.
Tibolone is rapidly metabolized to three compounds that provide the pharmacological action of Livial. Two metabolites, 3α-OH-tibolone and 3β-OH-tibolone, have predominantly estrogenic activity, and the third, the δ4-isomer of tibolone, has progestogenic and weak androgenic activity.
Livial has a specific effect for different types of tissues. This is an estrogenic effect on the vagina, bone tissue, and thermostatic centers in the brain (correction of tides); Predominantly progestogenic effect on the mammary glands. Livial does not cause endometrial proliferation due to local conversion to the δ4-isomer, which has progestogenic and androgenic activity. Rare cases of bloody discharge when taking Livial are usually the result of endometrial atrophy.Livial helps to reduce the concentration of cholesterol, triglycerides in the blood plasma and increase the fibrinolytic activity of the blood. Livial improves mood and increases libido.

Indications and usage

- symptoms of natural or surgical menopause;
- prevention of osteoporosis with estrogen deficiency.

Contraindications

- pregnancy;
- lactation (breastfeeding period);
- a diagnosed hormone-dependent tumor or suspicion of it;
- Thrombosis and thromboembolism at present or in history, arising from pregnancy or using estrogen-containing drugs;
- vaginal bleeding of unknown etiology.

Dosage and administration

Livial take 2.5 mg /, preferably at the same time of the day. Improvement occurs within a few weeks, but the best results are observed with continued treatment for at least 3 months.
At the recommended dose, the drug can be continued for a long time.
Begin to take pills from the top rowed in the frame, first take the one that is marked on the corresponding day of the week. In the following days, take 1 pill / out of the package, in the direction indicated by the arrow, until all the pills are taken.

Adverse reactions

On the part of the endocrine system: sometimes - change in body weight, vaginal bleeding, pretibial edema.

From the side of the central nervous system: sometimes - dizziness, headache.

Gastrointestinal: sometimes - diarrhea, changes in liver function. The frequency of side effects is small.

At the same time taking Livial with anticoagulants, it is possible to increase the effect of the latter (a decrease in the level of fibrinogen, an increase in the concentration of antithrombin III, plasminogen and an increase in plasma fibrinolytic activity).
Livial's metabolism can accelerate, and, therefore, its activity can decrease while taking drugs that induce enzymatic systems.
