Mechanism of action

Argosulfan cream is a topical antibacterial drug that promotes healing of wounds (burns, trophic, purulent, etc.), effectively protects wounds from infection, relieves pain and burning sensation in the wound, reduces the time of treatment and preparation of the wound for skin grafts, in many cases leads to an improvement in condition that eliminates the need for transplantation.

Indications and usage

Burns of varying degrees, of any nature (thermal, solar, chemical, electrical current, radiation, etc.), frostbite.
Bedsores, trophic ulcers of the lower leg of various genesis (including chronic venous insufficiency, obliterating endarteritis, circulatory disorders in diabetes mellitus, erysipelas, etc.).
Purulent wounds, minor household injuries (cuts, abrasions).
Infected dermatitis, simple contact dermatitis, complicated impetigo, microbial eczema, streptostaphyloderma.

Dosage and administration

Outwardly, as an open method, and in the form of occlusive dressings.
After cleansing and surgical treatment, argosulfan 2-3 mm thick, 2-3 times a day, is applied to the wound in compliance with the conditions of sterility.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity (including to other sulfonamides), congenital glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, early childhood (newborns and infants up to 2 months, premature babies) due to the risk of developing nuclear jaundice.
Argosulfan is not recommended for use during pregnancy. During the period of breastfeeding, the drug can be prescribed only if the burn surface does not exceed 20% of the body surface, and the therapeutic benefit for the mother is greater than the possible risk for the baby.

Adverse reactions

Skin allergic reactions. Sometimes irritation is possible, manifested by burning in the place of application of the cream. With long-term use of Argosulfan, blood changes may occur, which are characteristic of systemic sulfonamides (for example, leukopenia), desquamative dermatitis.

Special notes

With prolonged treatment with Argosulfan and with extensive wound surfaces, the level of sulfathiazole in the blood plasma should be monitored, especially in patients with diseases of the liver and kidneys.
Use caution when used in shock patients with extensive burns because of the impossibility of collecting a full allergological history.

Storage conditions

The drug should be stored in a dry, dark place at a temperature not higher than 25 ° C.
