Transparent to slightly opaque, colorless to slightly colored, with menthol odor.

Decongestant vasoconstrictor (alpha adrenomimetic)

Pharmacology

Xylometazoline belongs to the group of local vasoconstrictor agents (decongestants) with alpha-adrenomimetic action, causes constriction of the blood vessels of the nasal mucosa, thus eliminating the swelling and hyperemia of the nasal mucosa. Relieves nasal breathing in rhinitis. In therapeutic concentrations does not irritate the mucous, does not cause hyperemia. The action comes in a few minutes and lasts for 10 to 12 hours.

When applied topically, it is practically not absorbed, plasma concentrations are so small that they cannot be determined by modern analytical methods.

Indications and usage

Acute respiratory diseases with rhinitis (runny nose), acute allergic rhinitis, pollinosis, sinusitis, eustachitis, otitis media (to reduce swelling of the nasopharyngeal mucosa). Preparing the patient for diagnostic manipulations in the nasal passages.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, arterial hypertension, tachycardia, marked atherosclerosis, glaucoma, atrophic rhinitis, thyrotoxicosis, surgery on the meninges (in history), pregnancy, children up to 10 years of age.Carefully:
Diabetes mellitus, exertional angina III - IV functional class, prostatic hyperplasia. During lactation, the drug should be used only after a thorough assessment of the ratio of benefits and risks for mother and child, it is not allowed to exceed the recommended dosage.

Dosage and administration

Intranasal. For adults and children over 10 years old: 1 injection in each nasal passage (can be repeated if necessary); should not be applied more than 3 times a day. The duration of treatment is not more than 10 days.

Store at a temperature not higher than 30^oC. Keep out of the reach of children.
