Mechanism of action

Enzyme preparation that improves the processes of digestion. Pancreatic enzymes that make up the drug, facilitate the digestion of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, which leads to their more complete absorption in the small intestine. The drug contributes to the release of its own enzymes of the pancreas, stomach and intestines. When using the drug improves the functional state of the gastrointestinal tract, normalizes the processes of digestion.
The drug has a specially developed dosage form - a gelatin capsule containing enteric mini-microspheres.

Indications and usage

- Replacement therapy for exocrine pancreatic insufficiency caused by chronic pancreatitis, pancreathectomy, total gastrectomy, partial resection of the stomach (Billroth I / II), ductal obstruction due to neoplasm (including obstruction of the pancreatic duct or common bile duct).
- replacement therapy for exocrine pancreatic insufficiency caused by cystic fibrosis (cystic fibrosis).
The drug is also used for pain in the pancreas,in the treatment of late transplantation pancreatitis and in exocrine pancreatic insufficiency in elderly patients.

Set individually, depending on the severity of the disease and the composition of the diet.
Creon 10 000 is recommended to take 1-2 capsules at the beginning of treatment during each main meal and 1 capsule during each light meal. The effective daily dose of Creon 10,000 can be from 4 to 15 capsules.
Creon 25,000 is also recommended to take 1-2 capsules at the beginning of treatment during each main meal and 1 capsule during each light meal. Subsequently, due to the high efficacy of CREON, 25,000 doses are gradually reduced, with constant monitoring of the response to treatment and symptoms of the disease.
For children The average recommended daily dose of lipase is 10,000 IU Ph. Eur./kg body weight. The daily dose of lipase should not exceed 15 000-20 000 IU Ph. Eur./kg.
The drug is taken with food or snacks. It is recommended to take 1/2 or 1/3 of a single dose at the beginning of a meal, and the rest - during it. Capsules should be washed down with a sufficient amount of liquid (about 100 ml).
Capsules and minimicrospheres should be swallowed whole, without breaking them and not chewing. For difficulty swallowing (for example, in young children or in elderly patients), the capsules are gently opened, and minimicrospheres are added to liquid foods that do not require chewing, or are taken with liquid.It should be borne in mind that any mixture of minimicrospheres with food or liquid can not be stored and should be taken immediately after preparation.

Adverse reactions

In some cases (<1%): diarrhea, constipation, feeling of discomfort in the stomach, nausea, skin reactions. Contraindications

Application of Creon during pregnancy and lactation (breastfeeding) is possible only if the expected positive effect of therapy outweighs the possible risk, due to the lack of reliable clinical data confirming the safety of the use of pancreatic enzymes in this category of patients.

Special notes

It should be borne in mind that crushing or chewing minimicrospheres, as well as adding them to food with a pH above 5.5, leads to the destruction of their shell, which protects from the action of gastric juice.

Children receiving long-term treatment with CREON 25 000 for cystic fibrosis should be under regular medical supervision.
