Mechanism of action

PENZITAL compensates for the insufficiency of the exocrine pancreatic function. Enzymes that are part of Pancreatin (lipase, alpha-amylase, protease / trypsin, chymotrypsin /) promote the breakdown of proteins to amino acids, fats to glycerol and fatty acids, starch to dextrins and monosaccharides. The drug improves the functional state of the gastrointestinal tract, normalizes the processes of digestion.

Trypsin inhibits the stimulated secretion of the pancreas, has an analgesic effect.

Pancreatic enzymes are released from the dosage form in the alkaline environment of the small intestine (because the pill is coated with an enteric coating that protects the components of the drug from the effects of gastric juice).

The maximum enzymatic activity occurs within 30-45 minutes after ingestion.

Indications and usage

- replacement therapy for exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (chronic pancreatitis, conditions after pancreathectomy, after irradiation, dyspepsia,Remheld's syndrome (gastrocardiac syndrome /, cystic fibrosis, flatulence, non-infectious diarrhea);

- violations of the absorption of food (state after resection of the stomach or small intestine);

- to improve the digestion of food for people with normal gastrointestinal function in case of errors in nutrition (eating fatty foods, irregular meals, eating large amounts of food) and in case of violations of chewing function, sedentary lifestyle, long-term immobilization;

- preparation for X-ray examination and ultrasound of the abdominal cavity.

Contraindications

- acute pancreatitis;

- exacerbation of chronic pancreatitis;

Increased sensitivity to the components of the drug.

Dosage and administration

The drug should be taken orally during or after a meal, the pills are not chewed and washed down with non-alkaline liquid (water, fruit juices).

The dose is determined individually depending on the degree of digestive disorders.

Adults are prescribed 1-2 tablets. 3 times / day

For children, the dose is determined individually.

The duration of treatment can vary from several days (in case of disturbance of the digestive process due to errors in the diet) to several months and years (if necessary, continuous replacement therapy).

Adverse reactions

Gastrointestinal: diarrhea, constipation, feeling of discomfort in the stomach, nausea (however, the causal relationship of these side effects with the intake of the drug has not been established, because these reactions are symptoms of exocrine pancreatic insufficiency).

Other: allergic reactions.

When cystic fibrosis is not recommended to use the drug in high doses due to the risk of fibrous colonopathy.

The dose of the drug should be adequate to the amount of enzymes that are necessary for the absorption of fat, taking into account the quality and quantity of food consumed.

With prolonged use Penzital at the same time should be prescribed iron supplements.

Drug interactions

With simultaneous use of pancreatin with iron preparations may decrease the absorption of the latter.

The simultaneous use of antacids containing Calcium carbonate and / or Magnesium hydroxide, reduces the effectiveness of pancreatin.

Overdosage

Symptoms: hyperuricosuria, hyperuricemia, in children - constipation.

Treatment: It is necessary to cancel the drug and prescribe symptomatic therapy.
