Mechanism of action

The drug has a pronounced anti-inflammatory effect, and also normalizes the tone of the smooth muscles of the gastrointestinal tract: helps to eliminate spasm without affecting the normal motility, and with reduced tone and motility has a tonic, prokinetic effect. In an in vitro experiment, it inhibits the growth of 6 subspecies of Helicobacter pylori. Iberogast^® reduces the intensity of ulceration of the gastric mucosa, secretion of hydrochloric acid, reduces the concentration of leukotrienes, increases mucin production, increases the concentration of mucoprotective prostaglandin E₂ in the gastric mucosa.

Indications

- for the treatment of functional disorders of the gastrointestinal tract (including irritable bowel syndrome), manifested by heaviness in the epigastric region, spasms of the stomach or intestines, belching, nausea, flatulence, constipation, diarrhea, or their alternation;

- as part of complex therapy of gastritis, gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer.

Dosage and administration

The drug is taken orally, 20 drops 3 times / day, before or during meals, with a small amount of water.

The duration of therapy is 4 weeks.

Increasing the duration and conducting repeated courses of treatment is possible on the recommendation of a doctor.

Side effect

Gastrointestinal: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.

Allergic reactions: skin manifestations, shortness of breath.

Contraindications

- calculous cholecystitis;

- children and adolescents up to 12 years (due to the lack of clinical data);

The content in the composition of the preparation of ethanol ranges from 29.5 to 32.6% (by volume). When taking 1 single dose (20 drops), the patient receives up to 0.24 g of absolute ethanol. The maximum daily dose of the drug (60 drops) contains up to 0.72 g of absolute ethanol, which is lower than the ethanol content in 200 ml of apple juice or 75 ml of kefir.

During storage, slight turbidity or slight precipitation may occur, which does not affect the therapeutic efficacy of the drug.

Influence on ability to drive vehicles and mechanisms

When using the drug, care should be taken when performing potentially hazardous activities that require high concentration of attention and speed of psychomotor reactions (including driving, working with moving mechanisms, the work of the dispatcher and the operator).

Drug interaction

Interaction with other drugs is currently unknown.

Consideration should be given to the possibility of interaction with drugs whose metabolism is carried out with the participation of the cytochrome P450 system (licorice roots, Milk thistle, chamomile flowers can have an inhibitory effect on a number of cytochrome P450 isoenzymes). At the same time, these effects are dose-dependent in nature and are described when individual components are used in concentrations that exceed the recommended doses of Iberogast^®.
