Mechanism of action

Activated charcoal - adsorbent. It has enterosorbing, detoxification and antidiarrheal effects. It has a large surface activity and high sorption capacity. Activated carbon is able to adsorb gases, toxic substances, salts of heavy metals, alkaloids and glycosides, medicinal substances, endo-and exotoxins from the gastrointestinal tract.

Indications and usage

Dyspepsia, food intoxication. Alkaloid poisoning, heavy metal salts. Flatulence. To reduce gas formation in preparation for X-ray and endoscopic examinations.

Contraindications

Individual intolerance to the drug, ulcerative lesions of the gastrointestinal tract (including peptic ulcer and 12 duodenal ulcers, ulcerative colitis), bleeding from the gastrointestinal tract.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

The average dose is 100-200 mg / kg / day (in 3 doses).Tablets are ground to powder and stirred in water (50-150 ml) and taken orally as a suspension.

Dosage and administration

Inside in pills or in the form of an aqueous suspension (the required amount of the drug is stirred in 0.5 cups of water), 1 hour before meals and taking other drugs. Adults in an average of 1.0–2.0 g 3-4 times per day, the maximum dose for adults up to 8 g. Children are given an average of 0.05 g / kg body weight 3 times per day, the maximum single dose is up to 0.2 mg / kg body weight. The course of treatment for acute diseases for 3-5 days, for allergies and chronic diseases - up to 14 days. Repeated course - after 2 weeks on the recommendation of a doctor.

In case of acute poisoning, gastric lavage with a suspension of activated carbon, then inside 20–30 g. With flatulence and dyspepsia, inside 1-2 g 3–4 times a day. The course of treatment is 3–7 days.
