Active ingredient and dosage form

Ovestin pills:
1 pill contains estriol mg;
30 tab. packaged.

intravaginal cream:
1 g of cream contains estriol 1 mg;
15 g in a tube.

vaginal suppositories:
1 suppository contains estriol 500 mcg;
15 pieces packaged.

Mechanism of action

Active ingredient Ovestina - estriol is a natural estrogen. It contributes to the restoration of normal vaginal epithelium with its atrophic changes in pre- and postmenopause, contributes to the normalization of the vaginal microflora, thereby increasing the resistance of the vaginal epithelium to infectious and inflammatory processes. Since estriol has a short duration of action, taking the drug once daily in a dose does not cause endometrial proliferation and does not require additional progestogen therapy. Consequently, there is no withdrawal bleeding.
It has no significant effect on mineral and protein metabolism, blood glucose level, peripheral blood picture, plasma phosphorus content.

Indications and usage

Atrophy of the mucous membrane of the lower urogenital tract due to estrogen deficiency;
Pre- and postoperative treatment of postmenopausal women with vaginal access surgery;
Infertility caused by cervical factors;
For diagnostic purposes with unclear results of a vaginal smear on cytology.

Contraindications

Pregnancy; thrombosis, embolism; severe liver dysfunction; hormone-dependent tumors of the uterus or mammary glands; uterine bleeding of unknown etiology.

Adverse reactions

Sometimes (in violation of the dosing regimen): tension or pain in the mammary glands, nausea, pigment spots on the skin, hypersecretion of cervical mucus.
Seldom: headache, arterial hypertension, gastrocnemius muscle cramps, visual disturbances.
These side effects usually disappear during the first weeks of treatment.

Special notes

The daily dose should not exceed 8 mg by ingestion, with intravaginal use - cream 1 time / day and 1 candle per day. The duration of treatment with the indicated maximum doses should not exceed several weeks.
It is recommended to carefully monitor patients who have or had the following conditions: thrombosis, severe liver dysfunction, porphyria, this category includes persons who have experienced severe itching, cholestatic jaundice, herpes of pregnancy or otosclerosis.
The patient should consult a physician if relief of symptoms does not occur after 2-3 weeks of drug treatment.
