Mechanism of action

Ferrum Lek - antianemic drug. In the preparation Ferrum Lek, iron is in the form of a complex compound of iron (III) hydroxide with polymaltose. This macromolecular complex is stable and does not release iron in the form of free ions. The complex is similar in structure to the natural compound of iron with ferritin, so that when Ferrum Lek is taken inside the drug, iron (III) from the intestine enters the blood through active absorption, which makes it almost impossible to overdose and poison the drug. Iron (III) hydroxide polymaltose complex does not possess prooxidant properties, which are inherent in iron (II) salts.
When using the drug, there is a gradual regression of clinical (weakness, fatigue, dizziness, tachycardia, dry skin) and laboratory symptoms of iron deficiency.
Ferrum Lek in the form of pills does not cause staining of the teeth.

After taking the drug inside the maximum absorption of iron occurs in the duodenum and jejunum. There is a correlation between the degree of iron deficiency and the amount of iron absorbed into the systemic circulation (the higher the iron deficiency, the better the absorption).
After the i / m injection, iron quickly enters the bloodstream: 15% of the dose - after 15 minutes, 44% - after 30 minutes. The maximum concentration of iron in the plasma is reached 24 hours after the injection. Biological T1 / 2 is 3-4 days.
