Mechanism of action

Filling shortage of pancreatic enzymes.
Mezim forte compensates for the insufficiency of the exocrine function of the pancreas, improves food digestion.
Pancreatic enzymes - amylase, lipase and protease - are released in the alkaline environment of the small intestine; facilitate the digestion of carbohydrates, fats and proteins and contribute to their more complete absorption.

Indications and usage

Insufficiency of the exocrine function of the pancreas (cystic fibrosis, chronic pancreatitis, etc.).
Chronic inflammatory-dystrophic diseases of the stomach, intestines, liver, gallbladder. Conditions after resection or irradiation of these organs, accompanied by a violation of food digestion, flatulence, diarrhea (as part of combination therapy).
To improve the digestion of food with errors in the diet, incl. eating fatty, unaccustomed, or difficult to digest food.
Preparation for ultrasound and radiological examination of the abdominal cavity.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity (including intolerance to pork), acute pancreatitis.

Dosage and administration

Inside, before eating, without chewing, with plenty of liquid (if possible alkaline: water, fruit juices). The dose is set individually, depending on the age and degree of insufficiency of the pancreas function.
In the usual dose - 1-2 tab., If necessary, with meals, another 1-4 tab.
It is not recommended to exceed the daily dose of enzymes, which is 15,000-20000 IU of lipase / kg, especially in patients with cystic fibrosis.
The duration of treatment can vary from several days (in case of disturbance of the digestive process due to errors in the diet) to several months and even years (if necessary, constant replacement therapy).

Adverse reactions

Allergic reactions. With prolonged use in high doses may develop hyperuricuricuria, an increase in the level of uric acid in the blood plasma.

Drug interactions

Reduces iron absorption. Antacids containing Calcium carbonate and / or Magnesium hydroxide may reduce the effectiveness of pancreatin.
