Mechanism of action
Dexa-gentamicin has a glucocorticoid, anti-inflammatory, antiallergic, broad spectrum antibacterial, bactericidal action.
Indications and usage
- infections of the anterior segment of the eye caused by gentamicin-sensitive microflora (conjunctivitis, keratitis, blepharitis, barley);
- allergic processes of the anterior segment of the eye, accompanied by bacterial infection;
- prevention and treatment of inflammation in the postoperative period (removal of cataracts, antiglaucomatous operations).
Contraindications
- keratitis caused by herpes zoster (tree keratitis), chicken pox, and other viral diseases of the cornea and conjunctiva;
- microbacterial infections of the eye;
- fungal diseases of the eye;
- acute purulent eye diseases with damage to the corneal epithelium;
- corneal epitheliopathy;
- increased intraocular pressure;
- hypersensitivity to any of the components of this drug.
During treatment with Dexa-gentamicin eye drops, contact lenses are not recommended.
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
To date, clinical trials data regarding the use of Dexa-gentamicin eye drops during pregnancy, lactation, as well as in children are absent. However, the drug can be used if the intended benefit to the mother outweighs the possible risk to the fetus.
Adverse Effects
In rare cases, an allergic reaction and a burning sensation after the use of the drug. Prolonged use of the drug can cause secondary glaucoma and steroid cataracts, so when using the drug for more than 2 weeks, as well as in patients with a history of glaucoma, it is recommended to regularly monitor intraocular pressure.
Immediately after applying Dexa-gentamicin ophthalmic ointment, a short-term impairment of visual acuity may occur, leading to a slowdown in mental and physical reactions. Therefore, it is not recommended to use the drug immediately before working with the mechanisms and driving vehicles. Storage conditions
