Active ingredient and dosage form

Mechanism of action

Antacid, enveloping, adsorbing.
Almagel neutralizes hydrochloric acid and reduces the activity of pepsin, gastric juice, protects the gastrointestinal mucosa from damaging effects.

Almagel suspension is evenly distributed over the mucous membrane of the stomach and provides prolonged gastroprotection. It has buffer-antacid properties: between doses of the pH of gastric juice is maintained from 4-4.5 to 3.5-3.8. Sorbitol has a choleretic and easy laxative effect. The therapeutic effect manifests itself in 3-5 minutes and lasts 70 minutes.

Indications and usage

Peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum (acute phase), acute or chronic gastritis on the background of normal or increased secretion (acute phase), reflux esophagitis, diaphragmatic hernia, duodenitis, enteritis, gastrointestinal disorders due to poor diet, taking medications ( NSAIDs, glucocorticoids), drinking coffee or alcohol, smoking.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity, marked renal dysfunction, Alzheimer's disease, neonatal period, breastfeeding.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

When pregnancy is possible to use no longer than 3 days. At the time of treatment should stop breastfeeding.

Dosage and administration

Inside, for 0.5 h before meals (with gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer between the main meals) and at night, for adults 1-3 dosing spoons 3-4 times a day. Maintenance dose - 1 dose spoon 3-4 times a day for 2-3 months. Preventive therapy - 1-2 dosing spoons.
Children strictly prescribed by a doctor: up to 10 years - 1/3 doses for adults, 10-15 years - 1/2 doses. The maximum daily dose is 16 dosing spoons, with such a dose, the duration of treatment is no more than 2 weeks. Adverse reactions

Drug interaction
Lowers the effectiveness of tetracyclines, H_2-antihistamines, cardiac glycosides, iron salts, Ciprofloxacin, phenothiazines, isoniazid, beta-adrenergic blockers, Indomethacin, Ketoconazole, and others.

Overdosage

Symptoms: depression of motility of the gastrointestinal tract.
Treatment: the appointment of laxatives.

With long-term intake, it is necessary to ensure adequate intake of phosphorus from food.
