Xalatan eye drops bottle 0.005% 2.5ml

Active ingredient and dosage form

Eye drops 0.005%:
1 ml contains latanoprost 50 mcg,
Excipients: sodium chloride; sodium dihydrophosphate (monohydrate); sodium hydrogen phosphate (anhydrous); benzalkonium chloride; water for injections; in dropper bottles of 2.5 ml; per pack of 1 or 3 bottles.

Mechanism of action

Xalatan is an antiglaucoma drug. It reduces IOP by increasing the outflow of aqueous humor, mainly through the uveoscleral route, as well as through the trabecular network. It is established that latanoprost does not have a significant effect on the production of aqueous humor and on the hemato-ophthalmic barrier.

When used in therapeutic doses, Xalatan does not have a significant pharmacological effect on the cardiovascular and respiratory systems and has an antiglaucoma effect.

IOP reduction begins approximately 3-4 hours after drug administration, the maximum effect is observed after 8-12 hours, the effect lasts for at least 24 hours.

Indications and usage

Reducing elevated intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma; with increased intraocular pressure.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the drug; age up to 18 years.

WITH caution the drug should be used in patients with aphakia, pseudo-ophakia with a rupture of the posterior lens capsule, patients with known risk factors for macular edema (cases of macular edema, including cystoid, are described in the treatment with latanoprost); inflammatory, neovascular or congenital glaucoma (due to the lack of sufficient experience with the drug).

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Sufficient experience in the use of the drug during pregnancy and lactation is not. It is used in pregnancy if the potential benefit outweighs the possible risk to the mother, the fetus and the newborn. Nursing mothers prescribed with caution (the active form and metabolites can penetrate into breast milk).

Dosage and administration

Xalatan is instilled in the conjunctival sac, 1 drop 1 time per day, in the evening; when a dose is missed, the next one is administered as usual (i.e. 1 drop). With more frequent administration, the effectiveness of the drug is reduced.

When prescribing a combination therapy, eye drops of various drugs are administered at intervals of at least 5 minutes.

Adverse reactions

Special senses: eye irritation (burning sensation, feeling of sand in the eyes, itching, tingling and foreign body sensation), blepharitis, conjunctival hyperemia, eye pain, increased iris pigmentation, transient point epithelial erosion, eyelid edema, corneal edema, conjunctivitis, lengthening, thickening, increase in the number and strengthening of pigmentation of eyelashes and hair, iritis / uveitis, keratitis, macular edema (includingcystoid), a change in the direction of growth of eyelashes, sometimes irritating the eyes, blurred vision.
Dermatologic: rash, darkening of the eyelid skin and local skin reactions on the eyelids.
From the nervous system: dizziness, headache.
Respiratory: bronchial asthma (including acute attacks or exacerbation of the disease in patients with a history of bronchial asthma), shortness of breath.
Musculoskeletal system: muscle pain, joint pain.
Other: nonspecific chest pains.
