Mechanism of action
Pancreatin is a digestive enzyme remedy. Compensates insufficiency of the exocrine function of the pancreas, has a proteolytic, amylolytic and lipolytic action. Enzymes that are part of Pancreatin (lipase, amylase, trypsin, chymotrypsin) promote the breakdown of proteins to amino acids, fats to glycerol and fatty acids, starch to dextrins and monosaccharides. Improves the functional state of the gastrointestinal tract, normalizes the processes of digestion. Trypsin inhibits the stimulated secretion of the pancreas, providing an analgesic effect. Pancreatic enzymes are released from the dosage form in the alkaline environment of the small intestine, since protected from the action of gastric juice sheath.
Indications and usage
- Replacement therapy for exocrine pancreatic insufficiency: chronic pancreatitis, pancreathectomy, condition after irradiation, dyspepsia, ukoviscidosis.
- Flatulence.
- Diarrhea non-infectious genesis.
- Remheld's syndrome (gastrocardial syndrome).
- Disruption of food absorption (condition after resection of the stomach and small intestine).
- To improve the digestion of food in individuals with normal function of the gastrointestinal tract in case of errors in nutrition: eating fatty foods, a large amount of food, irregular meals.
- When violations of the chewing function, sedentary lifestyle, prolonged immobilization.
- Preparation for X-ray and ultrasound examination of the abdominal cavity organs.
Contraindications

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
The safety of using Pancreatin in pregnancy is not well understood. Application is possible in cases where the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus. During lactation, the use of Pancreatin is not contraindicated.
Dosage and administration
Inside The drug is taken during or after a meal, not chewed and squeezed non-alkaline liquid (water, fruit juices). The dose is determined individually depending on the degree of digestive disorders.
Adults usually take 2-4 pills 3-6 times a day. The maximum daily dose is 16 tablets. In children over 6 years old, the drug is prescribed by a doctor. The dose is determined individually. Usually prescribe 1 pill 3 times a day. The duration of treatment can vary from several days (in case of disturbance of the digestive process due to errors in the diet) to several months or years (if necessary, continuous replacement therapy).
Adverse reactions
Allergic reactions. Rarely - diarrhea, constipation, feeling of discomfort in the stomach, nausea (the causal relationship between the development of these reactions and the effect of Pancreatin has not been established, since these phenomena are symptoms of exocrine pancreatic insufficiency). With prolonged use in high doses, the development of hyperuricuricuria, hyperuricemia. In case of cystic fibrosis, if the required dose of Pancreatin is exceeded, it is possible to develop strictures (fibrous colonopathy) in the ileocecal region in the ascending colon. When applying Pancreatin in high doses in children, perianal irritation and irritation of the oral mucosa may occur.
When cystic fibrosis is not recommended the use of Pancreatin in high doses due to the increased risk of stricture (fibrous colonopathy). The dose should be adequate to the amount of enzymes that are necessary for the absorption of fat, taking into account the quality and quantity of food consumed.
Drug Interactions
At use of Pancreatinum decrease in absorption of iron and folic acid is possible. The simultaneous use of antacids containing calcium carbonate and / or Magnesium hydroxide, can lead to a decrease in the effectiveness of Pancreatin.
