Active ingredient and dosage form

Powder for solution for oral administration:
1 sachet contains macrogol 4000 - 64 g, sodium sulfate anhydrous 5.7 g, sodium bicarbonate 1.68 g, sodium chloride 1.46 g and potassium chloride 0.75 g;
4 or 20 bags of 74 g per carton.

Mechanism of action

Fortrans belong to the group of diagnostic tools, osmotic laxatives.
Macrogol 4000 is a high-molecular compound long linear polymers that hold water molecules through hydrogen bonds. Due to this, after oral administration of Macrogol 4000 increases the volume of intestinal contents. Not absorbed fluid, which is located in the intestinal lumen, supports the laxative effect of the solution.

Pharmacokinetic data confirm the absence of intestinal absorption and metabolism of Macrogol 4000 when administered orally.

Indications and usage

Fortrans is used for intestinal lavage (washing) in preparing patients for:
- endoscopic or radiological examinations,
- intestinal surgery.

Contraindications

Severe disorders of the general condition, such as dehydration of the body or severe heart failure;
Severe bowel disease, leading to destruction of the mucous membrane;
Tendency to the occurrence of intestinal obstruction; - children under 15 years old.

Dosage and administration

For adults for ingestion.
Approximate dosage - 1 liter of solution for 15 - 20 kg of weight, which corresponds to an average dose of 3-4 liters.
Each bag should be dissolved in 1 liter of water. Stir until complete dissolution of the powder.
The solution can be taken either once (4 liters in the evening before the test) or fractionally (2 liters in the evening before the test and 2 liters in the morning on the test day; the last dose is usually recommended 3-4 hours before the procedure).

Adverse reactions

At the beginning of the reception, nausea and vomiting may occur, which disappear with further use.
Abdominal distention may also occur.
Seldom: allergic reactions (rash, urticaria, edema)

Elderly people with poor health should use the drug only under medical supervision.
Diarrhea caused by the use of Fortrans can disrupt the absorption of other concomitant medications.

Store at a temperature not higher than 25^oC, out of the reach of children!
Shelf life - 5 years.
