Pharmacology

Levocabastin is a selective blocker of H1-histamine receptors with a long lasting effect. Local effect occurs within 5 minutes. Vizin® Alergi removes the typical symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis (itching, redness, swelling of the conjunctiva and eyelids, tearing).

The action lasts up to 12 hours.

After instillation into the eyes at a dose of 15 mcg / drop, about 6 mcg of levocabastin is absorbed, and the maximum plasma concentration is reached after about 6 hours. Levocabastin is approximately 55% bound to plasma proteins. The main metabolite of le Vokabastin, acylglucuronide, is formed by glucuronidation, which is the main pathway for the formation of metabolites. Levocabastin is excreted mainly by the kidneys in unchanged form (about 70% of the absorbed amount). The half-life of levocabastine is about 39-70 hours.

Indications and usage

Allergic conjunctivitis.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, wearing contact lenses, age up to 12 years, the period of breastfeeding.

Older age, impaired renal function.

In preclinical studies in animals, levocabastin, when administered systemically in doses up to 2500 times (expressed in mg / kg) above the recommended maximum dose for topical administration in humans, did not cause embryotoxic and teratogenic effects. In animals with systemic administration of levocabastin in doses more than 5,000 times (in terms of mg / kg) exceeding the recommended maximum dose for topical use in humans, teratogenic properties and / or an increase in the death of embryos are noted.

There are no data on the use of levocabastin in pregnant women. Therefore, it is not recommended to use Vizin® Alergi eye drops during pregnancy, except in cases where the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus. The drug penetrates into breast milk, so for the period of treatment, breastfeeding should be stopped.

Locally. For adults and children over 12 years old: 1 drop in each eye twice a day (3-4 times a day if necessary). Treatment should continue until symptoms disappear.
Since Vizin® Alerji eye drops are a suspension, the bottle should be shaken before each use.

Remove the cap from the dropper bottle and turn the bottle upside down. Do not touch the tip of the vial to any surface. After use, screw the cap on the dropper bottle.

Special notes

During the period of treatment, it is not recommended to use soft (hydrophilic) contact lenses - interaction with the benzalkonium chloride contained in the preparation is possible.
To prevent microbial contamination, avoid touching the eyelids with a pipette and close the bottle tightly.

If the drug has become unusable or the expiration date has expired - do not pour it out! Put the medicine in the bag and put it in the trash. These measures will help protect the environment!
