Mechanism of action

Xalatamax - eye drops for the treatment of glaucoma. Effectively reduces intraocular pressure by increasing the outflow of aqueous humor, has antiglaucoma effect. Maintains an optimal level of intraocular pressure throughout the day and controls its daily fluctuations.

Xalatamax can be used for a long time without reducing the severity of the hypotensive effect.

Included in the standards of glaucoma treatment, as the drug of first choice.

Latanoprost is a prostaglandin F2α analogue and selective FP receptor agonist. Reduces intraocular pressure by increasing the outflow of aqueous humor and has anti-glaucoma effect.

The main mechanism of action of latanoprost is associated with an increase in uveoscleral outflow. It does not have a significant effect on the production of aqueous humor and does not affect the hematophthalmic barrier.

The reduction in intraocular pressure begins 3-4 hours after the administration of the drug, the maximum effect is noted after 8-12 hours, the action lasts for at least 24 hours.

Indications and usage

Open-angle glaucoma.
Increased intraocular pressure.

Contraindications

Individual hypersensitivity to latanoprost, benzalkonium chloride or other components of the drug;
age up to 18 years.

Dosage and administration

Drops of Xalatamax are instilled in the conjunctival sac, 1 drop 1 time per day, in the evening.

When skipping a dose, the next one is administered as usual (i.e., the dose is not doubled). With more frequent administration of the drug, its effectiveness is reduced.

Drug Interactions

Xalatamax has an additive effect on lowering intraocular pressure when used in combination with beta-blockers, adrenomimetics, carbonic anhydrase inhibitors and a partial additive effect when used in combination with m-cholinomimetic.

When mixed with latanoprost eye drops containing thiomersal, precipitation occurs. Eye drops containing these substances should be applied at intervals of not less than 5 minutes.

The simultaneous use of 2 prostaglandin analogues can cause a paradoxical increase in intraocular pressure.

Storage conditions

Store in a dry, dark place, out of reach of children, at a temperature of from 2 to 8 ° C;
