Indications

In ophthalmology

- acute and subacute conjunctivitis;

- blepharitis;

Dosage and administration

In ophthalmology

At mild to moderate infections Ciprofloxacin is instilled 1-2 drops into the conjunctival sac of the affected eye every 4 hours, and for severe infections, 2 drops / h. After improving the condition, the dose and frequency of instillations are reduced.

At corneal bacterial ulcer The preparation is instilled 1 drop every 15 minutes for 6 hours, then 1 drop every 30 minutes in the waking hours. On the 2nd day bury 1 drop / h in the waking hours. From the 3rd to the 14th day, 1 drop is instilled every 4 hours in the waking hours.

In otorhinolaryngology

Before using the drug should be carefully cleaned external auditory canal. The solution when used should be at room temperature (or body temperature) in order to avoid vestibular stimulation.The drug is instilled into the external auditory meatus of 3-4 drops 2-4 times / day or more often, depending on the need. After instillation, the patient should lie on the opposite side of the patient's ear for 5-10 minutes.

In isolated cases, after local cleansing, a cotton swab moistened with a solution of ciprofloxacin can be inserted into the ear, into the external auditory canal. The tampon may be in the ear canal until the next procedure.

The duration of the course of treatment should not exceed 5-10 days. In some cases, treatment may be extended if the local flora is sensitive.

Adverse effects

Special senses: itching, burning, mild pain and hyperemia of the conjunctiva or in the area of ​​the external auditory canal and eardrum; rarely, eyelid edema, photophobia, lacrimation, foreign body sensation in the eyes, unpleasant taste in the mouth immediately after instillation, reduced visual acuity, the appearance of a white crystalline precipitate in patients with a corneal ulcer, keratitis, keratopathy, the appearance of corneal spots or corneal infiltration.

Other: nausea, allergic reactions, the development of superinfection.

Contraindications

- viral keratitis;

- children's age up to 1 year (for eye drops);

- hypersensitivity to the drug.

Use during pregnancy and lactation

The use of the drug during pregnancy and lactation (breastfeeding) is possible only in the case when the intended benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus and child.

Use in children

Contraindicated: children up to 1 year (for eye drops).

Special notes

The solution in the form of eye drops is not intended for intraocular injections.

When using other ophthalmic drugs, the interval between their administration should be at least 5 minutes.

Use of the drug should be discontinued when any signs of hypersensitivity appear.

The patient should be informed that if after applying the drops the conjunctival hyperemia continues for a long time or increases, it is necessary to stop using the drug and consult a doctor.

During the period of drug treatment is not recommended wearing soft contact lenses. When using hard contact lenses, remove them before instillation and re-install 15-20 minutes after instillation of the drug.

Overdosage

Data on overdose of Ciprofloxacin when used in the form of eye drops is not available.

With the occasional use of the drug inside the overdose symptoms are unlikely, because the content of the drug in one bottle of drops is extremely small (15 mg), with a maximum daily dose for an adult of 1 g (500 mg for children).

Drug interaction

The interaction of Ciprofloxacin drops with other drugs with simultaneous use has not been identified.

There is evidence that the systemic use of certain quinolones leads to an increase in plasma concentration of theophylline, affects the metabolism of caffeine and enhances the effect of oral anticoagulants (includingwarfarin and its derivatives).

A temporary increase in serum creatinine was reported in patients who were given cyclosporine together with systemic use of ciprofloxacin.

Ciprofloxacin is incompatible with alkaline solutions.
