Pharmacological properties:
Alpisarin has antiviral activity against DNA-containing viruses: herpes simplex virus ( Herpes simplex) I and II like Varicella zoster (shingles virus and varicella zoster), a cytomegalovirus. In experiments in vitro The inhibitory effect of Alpisarin on HIV is shown. The inhibitory effect of Alpisarin on the reproduction of the virus is particularly pronounced in the early stages of the disease. The mechanism of action is realized extracellularly. The drug inhibits the penetration of the virus into the cell, violating its reproduction.
Alpisarin has a moderate bacteriostatic effect on certain types of gram-positive ( Staphylococcus aureus) and gram-negative bacteria ( Escherichia coli), mushrooms ( Microsporum canis) and pathogenic protozoa ( Entamoeba histolytica, Thrichomonas vaginalis).
Alpisarin has an immunostimulating effect on cellular and humoral immunity, the drug induces the production of γ-interferon in blood cells.
Alpisarin has a moderate anti-inflammatory effect.
It is a low-toxic substance, does not possess mutagenic and local irritating properties.
Indications:Alpisarin is used in adults and children in the treatment of acute and recurrent forms of herpes simplex extragenital and genital localization, shingles, chicken pox, viral diseases of the oral mucosa, cytomegalovirus infection, herpetic eczema Kaposi.
Note: On antiviral activity, Alpisarin is close to the drug Acyclovir. Alpisarin, unlike most antiviral drugs, does not develop virus resistance.
Contact for chickenpox taking Alpisarin (1 pill 3 times a day for 5 days) in 97% of cases prevents the development of the disease.
Contraindications:Pregnancy. Individual intolerance to the components of the drug.
In connection with the solid dosage form, Alpisarin pills are not recommended for children under 3 years. Ointment is allowed to use from 1 year.
Dosage and administration:Tablets are used internally, regardless of the meal. Adults and children over 12 are prescribed 1-2 pills 3-4 times, children 6-12 years old - 1 pill 2-3 times, children 3-6 years old - ½-1 pill 2-3 times a day.
The maximum daily dose for children 3-12 years old is 300 mg (3 tablets), for children over 12 years old and adults 800 mg (8 tablets).
The ointment is administered topically 4-6 times a day: adults are given 5% ointment on the skin, children 2% ointment; for mucous membranes for adults and children - 2% ointment. The course of treatment depends on the form and severity of the disease.
In acute and recurrent forms of herpes simplex extragenital localization with single rashes, ointment is applied to the lesion for 3-5 days. In the case of common rashes, as well as in the presence of fever, lymphadenopathy and other common symptoms, Alpisarin is used simultaneously in pills and as an ointment for 5-14 days.
With genital herpes Alpisarin 2% ointment is applied to the affected areas from 4 to 6 times per day for 7-10 days. In the case of a relapsing course of the disease, Alpisarin pills are additionally prescribed for 5-14 days.
For diseases caused byVaricella zoster (herpes zoster, chicken pox), combined therapy is carried out, including taking Alpisarin orally (in the same age dosages) and local application of 2% (children) or 5% (adults) Alpisarin ointment on the lesion for 5-21 days.
In viral diseases of the oral mucosa Alpisarin is prescribed orally in the same age dosages and at the same time 2% Alpisarin ointment is applied to the affected areas of the oral mucosa for 5-15 days, for erosive and ulcerative form of the red lichen planus of the oral mucosa - for 2-4 weeks.
In herpetic eczema Kaposi and cytomegalovirus infection Alpisarin is used in the same age dosages for 7-21 days in complex therapy.
When relapses conduct repeated courses of drug treatment.
To prevent relapse Alpisarin is prescribed in pills one month after the end of treatment and then in interrecurrent periods in courses of 10-14 days.
