Composition

Alpha Normix coated tablets:
1 pill contains rifaximin 200 mg;

Alpha Normix granules for suspension for oral administration
5 ml of suspension Alpha Normiks contain: rifaximin 100 mg;
in vials of 100 ml, complete with a measuring cup.

Mechanism of action

Alpha Normiks (rifaximin) is a broad-spectrum bactericidal antibiotic derived from rifamycin.
Alpha Normix irreversibly binds the beta subunits of the bacterial enzyme DNA-dependent RNA polymerase, inhibits the synthesis of RNA and bacterial proteins, causes their death. Shows bactericidal properties against sensitive bacteria. Alpha Normix is ​​active against most gram-positive and gram-negative, aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms that cause gastrointestinal infections, including travelers' diarrhea. Rifaximin is not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and has an antimicrobial effect in the intestine (up to 1% can be absorbed in the presence of ulcers of the intestinal mucosa).

Indications and usage

Alpha Normix is ​​used to treat infections caused by bacteria susceptible to rifaximin:
- gastrointestinal infections (including Salmonella infections, dysentery, bacterial food poisoning);
- diarrhea syndrome: travelers' diarrhea, bacterial diarrhea, summer diarrhea;
- syndrome of excessive growth of microorganisms in the intestine;
- liver failure and encephalopathy, hyperammonemia (as part of complex therapy);
- uncomplicated diverticulosis of the colon (diverticular bowel disease);
- chronic intestinal inflammation;
- pre- and postoperative prophylaxis of infectious complications during operations of the organs of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT), with colorectal surgery.

Dosage and administration

Adults and children over 12 years old: from 1 pill every 8 hours to 2 pills every 8 to 12 hours (corresponding to 600 to 1200 mg of rifaximin).
The duration of treatment should not exceed 7 days and is determined by the clinical condition of the patients.

If necessary, a second course of treatment should be carried out no earlier than in 20 - 40 days. The total duration of treatment is determined by the clinical condition of the patients.

Alpha Normix granules for the preparation of suspensions for ingestion are in a hermetically sealed vial. Open the bottle, add water to the mark and shake well. Water is added again until the level of the suspension reaches the indicated 60 ml mark.

Dose of Alpha Normix in children under 12 withleaves 20-30 mg / kg / day in 2-4 doses, in the form of a suspension. Single doses for children aged 6-12 years - 100-300 mg; at the age of 2-6 years - 100-200 mg.

The concentration of rifaximin in the prepared suspension is 100 mg in 5 ml.
Before taking the bottle, shake well.

Contraindications

Individual intolerance to the components of Alpha Normix, rifaximin and other rifamycin antibiotics;
intestinal obstruction (complete and partial);
Ulcerative intestinal lesions;
Children age up to 2 years.

In the case of pregnancy, the drug should be taken only when absolutely necessary and under the direct supervision of a physician.
The use of rifaximin by breastfeeding women is allowed with appropriate medical supervision.

Adverse reactions

Alpha Normix is ​​poorly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, which eliminates the risk of systemic undesirable effects.
In some cases, mild to moderate undesirable gastrointestinal effects were observed, such as nausea, dyspepsia, vomiting, abdominal pain / colic, which usually disappeared spontaneously without the need for dose adjustment or suspension of therapy.

In rare cases, skin reactions like urticaria may develop, probably due to unpredictable individual intolerance to treatment.

Special notes

During prolonged treatment with high doses or damage to the intestinal mucosa, small amounts of the drug can be absorbed (less than 1%), which can cause the urine to stain reddish: this is due to the active substance, which like most antibiotics of this series (rifamycins) has reddish orange color.
