Active ingredient and dosage form
Seretide - inhalation aerosol dosed:
1 dose contains salmeterol xinafoate (equivalent to salmeterol 25 mcg), 36.3 mcg, fluticasone propionate 50, 125, and 250 mcg; in inhalers for 120 doses.
Mechanism of action
Seretide has anti-asthma, bronchodilatory, anti-inflammatory effect.
Indications and usage
Basic therapy of diseases associated with reversible airway obstruction (including bronchial asthma in children and adults) when it is appropriate to prescribe a combination therapy - a bronchodilator and a drug from the group of inhaled GCS in patients:
- receiving effective maintenance doses of long-acting beta-adrenoreceptor agonists and inhaled GCS;
- in which symptoms of the disease persist during therapy with inhaled GCS;
- receiving regular treatment with bronchodilators and needing inhaled GCS.
Maintenance therapy for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to components of Seretide, children under 4 years of age.
With caution - pulmonary tuberculosis, fungal, viral or bacterial respiratory infections, thyrotoxicosis, pheochromocytoma, diabetes mellitus, uncontrolled hypokalemia, idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis,uncontrolled arterial hypertension, arrhythmias, lengthening of the QT interval on an electrocardiogram, coronary artery disease, hypoxia of various origins, cataracts, glaucoma, hypothyroidism, osteoporosis, pregnancy, breastfeeding period.
Adverse reactions
The pharmacological side effects of the beta2-adrenoreceptor agonist are described as tremor, palpitations and headache, hypokalemia, which, as a rule, are transient and weaken as therapy with salmeterol continues.
Arrhythmias (including atrial fibrillation, supraventricular tachycardia and extrasystole) may occur, usually in sensitive patients.
There are reports of arthralgia, nervousness, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and hypersensitivity reactions, including skin rash, peripheral edema, and angioedema.
Cases of irritation of the mucous membranes of the oropharynx, changes in taste sensations (dysgeusia) are described.
Published reports of cases of development of painful muscle spasms.
Dosage and administration
Seretide is administered by inhalation. Adults and children aged 12 years and older - 2 inhalations (25 mcg salmeterol and 50 mcg fluticasone propionate) 2 times a day or 2 inhalations (25 mcg salmeterol and 125 mcg fluticasone propionate) 2 times a day, or 2 inhalations (25 mcg salmeterol and 250 μg fluticasone propionate) 2 times a day.
Children aged 4 years and older - 2 inhalations (25 mcg salmeterol and 50 mcg fluticasone propionate) 2 times a day.
Storage conditions
In a dry, dark place at a temperature of no higher than 20 ° C. Shelf life - 2 years.
