Mechanism of action

Bisacodyl - a laxative drug that stimulates intestinal peristalsis.

Indications and usage

Constipation: spastic or hypotonic dyskinesia of the colon after surgery, childbirth, with a dietary diet, idiopathic constipation; preparation of the colon for X-ray and endoscopic examination.

Contraindications

Violations of the evacuation of intestinal contents in case of its obstruction (ileus), acute abdomen syndrome, appendicitis, anorectal bleeding, hypersensitivity to laxatives.

Dosage and administration

Rectally: adults and children over 10 years old - 1 suppository 1-2 times a day. Children aged 6 to 10 years - 0.5 suppository 1-2 times a day.
In preparation for surgical operations, instrumental and radiological studies - 10 mg at night overnight before and before the operation or study.

Swallowing the chewed pill causes irritation of the stomach lining and pain in the abdomen.
Do not take medicine for more than 1 week without a doctor's instructions.

Adverse reactions

Abdominal pain and allergic reactions are possible.
Elderly patients who often take the drug may have weakness, impaired coordination and hypotension.

Special notes

Taking Bisacodilum simultaneously with sodium bicarbonate and other antacid agents, alkaline mineral waters, milk, and also histamine H2 receptor blockers (eg cimetidine, ranitidine) contributes to the rapid destruction of the pill shell and the release of the active substance that causes irritation of the stomach and duodenum.
