Mechanism of action

Bromhexine has an expectorant, mucolytic action due to the depolymerization of protein and mucopolysaccharide fibers. Due to these properties, the drug changes the consistency and reduces the viscosity of the sputum separated from the bronchial passages, increases its volume and thus promotes expectoration. Bromhexine has a weak antitussive effect, in high doses, has emitic properties.

Acute and chronic diseases of the bronchi and lungs with impaired sputum discharge: tracheobronchitis, bronchitis of different etiology (including those complicated by bronchiectasis), bronchial asthma, pulmonary tuberculosis, pneumonia (acute and chronic), cystic fibrosis, pneumoconiosis.
Sanitation of the bronchial tree in the preoperative period and during the therapeutic and diagnostic intra bronchial manipulations, prevention of congestion in the bronchi thick viscous sputum after surgery.

Hypersensitivity to the components of Bromhexine, peptic ulcer (in the acute stage), pregnancy, breastfeeding.
C caution: renal and / or liver failure; diseases of the bronchi, accompanied by excessive accumulation of secretions, in history - gastric bleeding.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Due to the lack of experience with Bromhexine in pregnant women, Bromhexine can be used only after the doctor has carefully weighed the possible risks and benefits of using the drug. The active ingredient passes into the mother's milk, so Bromhexine 8 BH during breastfeeding can not be taken.
