Composition and release form
Famvir - tablets:
1 coated pill contains famciclovir 125 or 250 mg; in a blister 10 or 21 pcs. respectively; in the box 1 blister.
pharmachologic effect
Famvir has an antiviral effect. Inhibits viral DNA replication.
Indications
Acute and recurrent infections caused by Herpes zoster (shingles), postherpetic neuralgia, acute and recurrent infections caused by Herpes simplex I and II, long-term suppressive therapy of recurrent herpes infections caused by Herpes simplex I and II.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to famciclovir.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
Acceptable, but only if the expected effect outweighs the potential risk.
Side effects
Extremely rare - headache, nausea.
Dosage and administration
Famvir is taken orally, adults.
For acute infection caused by Herpes zoster: 250 mg 3 times a day for a week.
When postherpetic neuralgia: 500 mg 3 times a day.
When a first episode or recurrence of a previously untreated herpes infection caused by Herpes simplex I or II occurs: 250 mg 3 times a day for 5 days.
For the treatment of recurrent episodes of recurrent herpes: 125 mg 2 times a day for 5 days.
Long-term suppressive therapy for the prevention of clinically pronounced and latent relapses of herpes infection: 250 mg 2 times a day.
Storage conditions and shelf life
