Mechanism of action

Foros has an inhibitory bone resorption effect.

Indications and usage

Paget's disease (deforming ostosis), osteoporosis in postmenopausal women (prevention of bone fractures, including the hip and spine), osteoporosis in men, hypercalcemia in malignant tumors.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity, pregnancy, lactation, child age (safety and efficacy have not been determined).
Restrictions on the use of
Diseases of the gastrointestinal tract in the acute phase (dysphagia, esophagitis, gastritis, duodenitis, peptic ulcer and duodenal ulcer), stricture or achalasia of the esophagus, chronic renal failure (with Cl creatinine <35 ml / min increases the risk of cumulation), hypocalcemia, vitamin deficiency

Dosage and administration

Foros is taken orally, without chewing, 2 hours (at least 30 minutes) before the first meal, drinking only water. The recommended dose for osteoporosis in women is 10 mg / day, for prevention it is 5 mg / day. When Paget's disease - 40 mg / day for 6 months.

Adverse Effects

From the digestive system: abdominal pain, dyspeptic disorders (constipation or diarrhea, flatulence, nausea, vomiting), dysphagia, heartburn, esophagitis, dystonia of the stomach, ulceration of the oral mucosa, pharynx, esophagus, stomach and duodenum, melena.
The nervous system: headaches, irritability.

Drug Interactions

NSAIDs (including acetylsalicylic acid) can increase the side effects of alendronic acid on the part of the gastrointestinal tract.

Despite the fact that there were no special studies on drug interactions, the use of alendronate in clinical studies with a large number of widely used drugs was not accompanied by the development of a clinically significant interaction.

Overdosage

Symptoms: abdominal pain, dyspeptic disorders, dysphagia, heartburn, esophagitis, gastritis; hypocalcemia and hypophosphatemia may develop.
