Mechanism of action

Gaviscon has antacid action. When ingested, Gaviscon reacts quickly with the acidic contents of the stomach. This forms alginate gel, which prevents the occurrence of gastroesophageal reflux. In the case of regurgitation, the gel enters the esophagus, where it reduces the irritation of the mucous membrane.

Special notes

Gaviscon should be used with caution in patients with hypercalcemia, nephrocalcinosis and recurrent formation of calcium-containing kidney stones.
