Mechanism of action
Nemozole - antihelminthic drug.
The main mechanism of action is associated with an inhibitory effect on the polymerization of beta-tubulin, which leads to the destruction of cytoplasmic microtubules of intestinal cells of the helminths; changes the course of biochemical processes (suppresses glucose utilization), blocks the movement of secretory granules and other organelles in the muscle cells of roundworms, causing their death.
The most active against larval forms of cestodes - Echinococcus granulosus and Taenia solium; nematode - Strongyloides stercolatis.
Indications and usage
- Nematodes (ascariasis, enterobiosis, ankilostomidoz, nekatorosis, trichocephalosis).
- Mixed worm infestations.
- Strongyloidosis.
- Neurocysticercosis caused by the larval form of Taenia solium.
- Echinococcosis of the liver, lungs, peritoneum, caused by the larval form of Echinococcus granulosus.
- Giardiasis.
- Toksokaroz.
- As an aid in the surgical treatment of echinococcosis cysts.
Contraindications
- The defeat of the retina.
- Hypersensitivity to the drug and other benzimidazole derivatives.
It is used with caution in violation of blood formation, abnormal liver function (liver function should be regularly monitored before and during treatment).
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
The drug is contraindicated for use in pregnancy. If necessary, the appointment of the drug during lactation should decide on the termination of breastfeeding.
Before the appointment of the drug should ensure that no pregnancy in women of childbearing age. During the period of therapy should use reliable methods of contraception.
Special notes
With neurocysticercosis, appropriate therapy of corticosteroids and anticonvulsants should be carried out. GCS for oral or IV administration is used to prevent a hypertensive attack in the first week of anti-cystic therapy.
Against the background of the drug is recommended to control the cellular composition of blood. If leukopenia occurs, therapy is suspended. Blood tests should be performed at the beginning of every 28-day cycle every 2 weeks during the period of albendazole therapy. It is possible to continue treatment with albendazole if the decrease in the total content of leukocytes and neutrophil leukocytes is moderate and does not progress.
Drug interactions
When combined with albendazole, Dexamethasone and cimetidine increase the concentration of albendazole sulfoxide in the blood.
Overdosage
Treatment: gastric lavage, Activated carbon. If necessary, conduct symptomatic therapy.
