Mechanism of action

PANAVIR is an antiviral and immunomodulatory agent. Increases the body’s non-specific resistance to various infections and contributes to the induction of Interferon.

Indications and usage

Herpes virus infections of various localization (including recurrent genital herpes, herpes Zoster and ophthalmic herpes).
Secondary immunodeficiency states on the background of infectious diseases.
Cytomegalovirus infection in patients with recurrent miscarriage. It can be used in women with chronic viral infection and interferon deficiency at the stage of preparation for pregnancy.
Human papillomavirus infection (anogenital warts) in complex therapy.
Panavir is used in the treatment of tick-borne encephalitis in order to reduce viral load and relieve neurological symptoms (anisoreflexia, reduced reflexes, painful exit points of the cranial nerves, nystagmus) in complex therapy.
Panavir is used in the complex treatment of immunocompromised patients with rheumatoid arthritis to enhance the analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect of concomitant therapy for herpes virus infection.

Contraindications

Individual intolerance. Panavir should not be used in patients in the event of an allergy to the components of the drug: glucose, mannose, rhinosis, arabinose, xylose.
Patients with severe pathology of the kidneys and spleen.
Lactation period, children up to 12 years.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Use during pregnancy is possible only when the intended benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus.
If necessary, the use of the drug during lactation should stop breastfeeding.

Dosage and administration

Panavir in solution is used for intravenous administration of a therapeutic dose of 200 μg (the contents of one ampoule or vial) of the active substance.
For the treatment of herpes virus infections and tick-borne encephalitis, Panavir is used twice with an interval of 48 or 24 hours. If necessary, a month later the course of treatment can be repeated.
For the treatment of cytomegalovirus and human papillomavirus infections, Panavir is used three times in the first week with an interval of 48 hours and twice in the second week with an interval of 72 hours.

For herpes infection in patients with rheumatoid arthritis 5 injections with an interval of 24-48 hours, if necessary, repeat the course after 2 months.
Panavir should be injected slowly.

Overdosage

Overdose may be a reversible violation of the functions of the kidneys and spleen.
