PILOKARPIN - m-cholinomimetic, methylimidazole derivative. Pilocarpine has a direct m-cholinomimetic effect. When applied topically in ophthalmology, it causes pronounced miosis, a decrease in intraocular pressure, accommodation spasm.
With systemic use increases the secretion of salivary, lacrimal, sweat, pancreas, intestinal glands, as well as mucosal cells of the respiratory tract.
For use in ophthalmology: acute glaucoma, secondary glaucoma (thrombosis of the central retinal vein, acute obstruction of the arteries of the retina, optic nerve atrophy, pigmentary retinal degeneration), chronic open-angle glaucoma, corneal abscess. The need for constriction of the pupil after instillation of mydriatics.
Eye diseases and conditions in which miosis is undesirable (including after surgery on the eye), iritis, iridocyclitis, hypersensitivity to pilocarpine.
Instillation in the conjunctival sac. The dosage regimen of Pilocarpine is established depending on the indications and the dosage form used.
When applied topically: rarely headache; with prolonged use - follicular conjunctivitis, eyelid contact dermatitis, marked miosis (1-1.5 mm in diameter).
