Pancreatin is a digestive enzyme remedy. Compensates insufficiency of the exocrine function of the pancreas.
The enzymes amylase, lipase and protease, which are part of pancreatin, facilitate the digestion of carbohydrates, fats and proteins, which contributes to their more complete absorption in the small intestine.

Indications and usage

Insufficiency of the exocrine pancreatic function (chronic pancreatitis, cystic fibrosis, etc.).
Chronic inflammatory-dystrophic diseases of the stomach, intestines, liver, gallbladder; conditions after resection or irradiation of these organs, accompanied by impaired digestion of food, flatulence, diarrhea (as part of combination therapy).
To improve food digestion in patients with normal function of the gastrointestinal tract in cases of errors in nutrition.
Preparation for X-ray and ultrasound examination of the abdominal cavity organs.

Pancreatin take with meals, without chewing and drinking plenty of water. The dose of the drug depends on the patient's age and the degree of insufficiency of the pancreas function.
For adults, a single dose of 0.5-1 g, daily dose - 4 g.
For children aged 6-7 years, a single dose is 250 mg, 8-9 years old - 250-500 mg, 10-14 years - 500 mg.
The duration of treatment can vary from several days to several months and even years (if necessary, replacement therapy).

Adverse reactions

Allergic reactions.

Contraindications

When cystic fibrosis is not recommended the use of pancreatin in high doses due to the increased risk of stricture (fibrous colonopathy). With simultaneous use of pancreatin with iron preparations may decrease the absorption of the latter. The simultaneous use of antacids containing Calcium carbonate and / or Magnesium hydroxide, can lead to a decrease in the effectiveness of pancreatin.
